{"id":763,"date":"2011-02-21T01:09:04","date_gmt":"2011-02-21T06:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yourLinuxGuy.com\/?p=763"},"modified":"2011-04-08T21:13:20","modified_gmt":"2011-04-09T02:13:20","slug":"what-is-not-supported-calendar-message-ics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yourLinuxGuy.com\/?p=763","title":{"rendered":"What is:  &#8220;not supported calendar message.ics&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I guess February is NetWare \/ Novell month here at yourLinuxGuy.com, because I have another Novell-related tip for you.\u00a0 But this time it&#8217;s more about GroupWise and its relation ship with Outlook.<\/p>\n<p>I think this only relates to the latest versions of Outlook 2010, but it may happen to other versions.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the symptom:\u00a0 Whenever a GroupWise user sends a <em><strong>recurring<\/strong><\/em> appointment to an Outlook 2010 user, the Outlook user gets the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The appointment arrives as a regular email<\/li>\n<li>Viewing the email never changes it to a status of opened<\/li>\n<li>The message has an attachment with the message &#8220;<em><strong>not supported calendar message.ics<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;ve got good news, and I&#8217;ve got bad news.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that Novell knows about it, as indicated by <a title=\"http:\/\/www.novell.com\/support\/search.do?cmd=displayKC&amp;docType=kc&amp;externalId=7007784&amp;sliceId=1&amp;docTypeID=DT_TID_1_1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.novell.com\/support\/search.do?cmd=displayKC&amp;docType=kc&amp;externalId=7007784&amp;sliceId=1&amp;docTypeID=DT_TID_1_1\" target=\"_blank\">this TID<\/a>.\u00a0 Also, you *can* do something about it in some cases, and I have a potential work-around for you.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that the direct fix is not currently available, and even when it is fixed, the&#8230; um.. goal post will probably move again&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, here&#8217;s my tip:\u00a0 If the Outlook recipient happens to have a BlackBerry (or other such device with a local calendar) that is synchronized in a non-enterprise mode (again, meaning local calendar), then all that Outlook-using person needs to do is accept the appointment on the Blackberry, and then synchronize the Blackberry via the Desktop software.<\/p>\n<p>Alright, I know that sounds like a pain, but remember, this is only for *recurring* appointments sent *to* Outlook 2007 or 201 users, *from* a GroupWise 8 account.\u00a0 So that shouldn&#8217;t be that big of a deal, right?\u00a0 Right?<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Good luck out there&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I guess February is NetWare \/ Novell month here at yourLinuxGuy.com, because I have another Novell-related tip for you.\u00a0 But this time it&#8217;s more about GroupWise and its relation ship with Outlook.
