First, I want to thank everyone who has contacted me this morning (20101122) to pass along the news of the Novell acquisition. It was nice hearing from you all again! Especially those that I hadn’t heard from in a while.
But the growing volume of messages and other communications is getting a bit much to respond to everyone in reasonable time, so I decided to put a quick note up on this blog to let you know that:
- We are aware of the change, and…
- My co-workers and I are working hard to find out as much information as possible, in order to come to a better understanding of how we — and our loyal customers — will be affected by the changes.

Thanks for that. We have always helped our customers in every way possible, based on their needs, best-practices, etc. Sometimes, that has meant using and recommending Novell products, sometimes not.
Though Attachmate was a big part of the rumor frenzy that has been going around for months, I don’t think many people outside the loop figured they’d get the whole enchilada (with minor exceptions for MS).
So yeah, we knew what was up in general. But there’s no getting around the fact that ZCM has no equal; IDM has no equal; OES2 has no equal. These are just examples, but each solves problems in combined/cumulative ways that other products sometimes simply cannot. And if these products directly satisfied all the customer requirements, they might very well have been what we recommended for them.
Now, looking ahead, at least we finally got rid of the “Novell will be sold” rumor. Now, they’ve *been* sold, we get to see how the Partner channel is handled, how the products are handled, etc….
And if the products end up being the right product, for the right customer, for the right situation, then so be it…
